A balloon race is being held on Pelsall Common tomorrow (Sunday, January 29) to commemorate the birthday of a villager who died last year.
Jacky Hudson is organising the event on what would have been Jeffrey Bluck’s birthday. He died from a rare form of cancer on November 11, 2011.
Family and friends are gathering at the Common in the village at 3.30pm, when they will release the balloons and light Chinese lanterns when dusk falls.
Money raised from the event will go to St Giles Hospice, Walsall, where he spent the last few weeks of his life.
Members of the public are invited to the event.

I appreciate the sentiment and the desire to mark this sad occaision but balloons and chinese lanterns are both dangerous to wildlife.
