Pelsall bodybuilder to compete in British Championships

A self-trained bodybuilder from Pelsall is to compete in the British championships after winning his first qualifying contest.

Ian Hutchinson, from Peolsford Road, won the UK Federation of Bodybuilding Qualifier at Bodypower Expo at Birmingham NEC on Saturday (May 21, 2011) – despite carrying a back injury.

The 39-year-old father of three, who began training in his late teens, took the trophy in the Classic category, beating seven other competitors in his class, for a series of compulsory poses.

He will now compete in the British Championships finals, which take place in Nottingham in October.

Ian, who trains about four times a week at Colossus Gym, in Aldridge, said: “I injured my back recently, so I’ve been training less recently, which makes the outcome of the competition all the better.”

He gets his inspiration from Flex magazine and muscular development magazines, as well as bodybuilding heroes Lee Priest, known as The Blond Myth and Jay Cutler.
