A fundraising concert is being held in aid of the St Michael’s and All Angels Church tower fund tonight.
The gig, which stars at 7.30pm, features Bradley Hopkins, a drummer from Pelsall who has played at the Mayor’s Gala Concert and has his own group, and vocalist Lydia Jones. There will also be supporting acts.
Tickets cost £10, which includes hot food.
For details and tickets, telephone Fr. Carl Ramsey on 01922 682098.
Repair work on the church tower cost about £35,000 and although work has been completed, funds still need to be raised to pay for it.
It is also about to start refurbishing the Church Hall over the next three to four years at a cost of £37,000.
The first stage will be to do the roof to make the building water tight – at a cost of £25,000 – and it is hoped to have this done by the end of August.
After that, the exterior will be clad to improve its appearance and provide much-needed insulation, new windows will be fitted, toilets and kitchen refurbished and a new heating system installed.
Paul Keen, from the church, said: “We have applied for a grant to help with the cost of the roof and are looking at possible funding for the other stages.
“Various fund raising events are being planned and it is hoped that in a few years’ time Pelsall will again have a Church Hall that is up to modern standards and an asset to the village.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the Church Hall fund should contact Fr. Carl on 01922 682098.
* Shelfield Male Voice Choir is also performing in church on Saturday, March 24, to raise money for the tower fund. Tickets cost £5 and the concert starts at 7.30pm.
