Balloon race raises money for St Giles Hospice

A balloon race held in memory of a Pelsall man has raised £110 for St Giles Hospice, Goscote.

The event, on January 29, took place on the Common on what would have been Jeffrey Bluck’s birthday. He died in November, 2011, from a rare type of cancer.

His sister, Jacky Hudson, said: “The day was lovely. We all gathered on the Common and started to blow up the balloons. The atmosphere was electric and we all made a donation that will be going to St Giles Hospice, Goscote.

“We had a countdown and released the balloons, what a lovely sight. I want to thank Dave, who owns the balloon shop in the village, who donated the balloons free of charge.”

Those taking part also lit lanterns when it was twilight.
