The newly-formed Pelsall branch of the Royal British Legion could collapse unless it signs up more members.
It is feared that unless the branch achieves 15 members it will not be allowed to continue. At the moment, the branch has just nine.
Karen Clifft, branch chair and one of the founding members, urged locals to get behind the committee.
Just hours before the next branch committee meeting goes ahead tonight, she said: “It is with sadness that I even have to post this so soon after our branch came into being … at our formation meeting in February I gave out 30 membership forms to people I was sure would join our branch.
“I have since been told by the County Secretary that we only have nine people in our branch who are members, well below the required 15 to keep it going.
“Pelsall people are extremely generous when it comes to the Poppy Appeal, but I am asking now that you also join our branch otherwise it will finish before it has had chance to get started.”
The branch is meeting tonight at Pelsall Labour Club at 7.30pm. All are welcome. It costs £12 a year to become a member of the Royal British Legion.
