School Direct has been running between Ryders Hayes and other schools further afield in the West Midlands the for last two years, but this year the new partnership with Blue Coat Infant and Juniors and Woodlands Academy of Learning means that the schools could offer five training places to Birmingham City University undergraduates.

Applicants will need to have a strong desire to teach, matched with the drive, enthusiasm and potential, to become an outstanding teacher. They will need excellent interpersonal skills and will already have had meaningful experience in a primary setting.

Joanne Speller, Ryders Hayes headteacher, said: “School Direct is a unique, tailor-made approach to learning to teach, providing an outstanding hands-on experience in our local schools, combined with academic excellence at Birmingham City University.

“Trainee teachers will be involved in all aspects of school life, with the expectation of a job within the partnership at the end of the 12 month post-graduate course where vacancies arise.”
