Kind shoppers have donated trolley-loads of food for the Walsall North Foodbank.

Volunteers from the Trussell Trust foodbank spent three days collecting donations from shoppers at Tesco Brownhills as part of their campaign to fill the shelves with two tonnes of long-life goods for when it opens at Pelsall Methodist Church next month.

Carpets Direct certA certificate of thanks has also been issued to a local business that has supported the new facility in Chapel Street.

Carpets Direct donated flooring material for the foodbank an fitted it free of charge.

Councillor Marco Longhi said the councillors approached the store after inspecting the foodbank premises after a meeting in May.

“We feel that this donation should not go unnoticed,” he said.

Earlier this year, One Stop, based in Lichfield Road, Brownhills, provided materials and labour to fit out the room.

Anyone who wants to donate food or can volunteer at the food bank, which will open on Tuesdays and Fridays, should telephone Rev Rob Farmer at St Mark’s Church on 01922 692550.
