Walsall Council officials are seeking relatives of a pensioner who died at his Pelsall home just before Christmas.
Mr Geoffrey Alan Sleigh (pronounced Slee), was known as Alan and had worked as a painter and decorator.
The 78-year-old was found dead at his home in Walsall Road, Pelsall, on 20 December 2014.
Environmental health officers from Walsall Council are trying to trace relatives who are thought to live overseas as well as appeal for any family members who may still be in the UK.
Neil Harris, principal environmental health officer, said: “We extend our sympathies to friends or family of Mr Sleigh at this sad time.
“We understand that he lived with his parents until they died and he had never married.”
Mr Sleigh had told his neighbour that he had family in Australia – a brother, John Vernon, who is thought to be in a care home in Perth, and elderly sister Betty/Margaret Dean, who also lives in Perth.
“We believe Betty/Margaret has children in Australia,” explained Neil. “We are appealing for anyone who has contact details for Betty/Margaret Dean in Australia to get in touch along with anyone who knows if there are any of Mr Sleigh’s family members in the UK.”
