Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment (The Staffords) will take part in a homecoming parade in Walsall next month to mark the end of their Afghanistan tour of duty.
Troops will march through part of Walsall on Thursday, 1 December ,and local heroes will receive their campaign medals from the Mayor, .oun Garry Perry,
Hundreds of soldiers will be taking part in the parade which gives people the opportunity to show their appreciation for their work in the war zone.
Coun Perry, said: “We are extremely privileged to be able to show our gratitude for the efforts of these young men in circumstances that are unimaginable for most of us.
“The soldiers have faced daily dangers and life-threatening situations with courage and tenacity and have played a major role in helping people to re-build their war-torn country.
“I am particularly honoured to have the opportunity to present campaign medals to our local troops in recognition of their sterling work. “They can all be guaranteed a warm Walsall welcome.”
Residents will be able to line the streets to watch the parade and details of the route, road closures and timings will be announced shortly.
(this is a press release from Walsall Council. Obviously, it isn’t specific to Pelsall, but thought it would be of interest.)
I would love to support the Mercia Regiment on the parade in Walsall on 1st December, but I cannot find any reference to the time of day it will take place. Please help. Thank you.
